While the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) Master of Social Work (MSW) program is not accepting applications for admission to the 2023-2024 academic year, they will commence accepting applications for the 2024-2025 academic year on October 1, 2023. The deadline for submitting applications for the 2024-2025 academic year is January 15, 2024.
The Master of Social Work (MSW) program at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is a distance-delivered program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Designed to prepare graduates for clinical social work practice, policy practice, and social work leadership, our program is committed to addressing Alaska’s unique and intricate workforce needs. The curriculum follows an advanced generalist model, encompassing both generalist and advanced generalist curricula. Throughout the program, students engage in six-course sequences covering essential areas such as social work practice, diversity, equity, inclusion, policy, human behavior in the social environment, research, and field practicum. The generalist curriculum equips students with the necessary skills for generalist social work practice, while the advanced generalist curriculum prepares them for advanced generalist practice. Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to pursue licensure as Master Social Workers (LMSW) or Clinical Social Workers (LCSW) through the State of Alaska’s Board of Social Work Examiners.
PLEASE NOTE: Individuals who have obtained a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) within the past five years are eligible to apply for advanced placement review at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) Master of Social Work (MSW) program. Successful advanced placement may allow direct entry into the MSW program’s Concentration Year (second year). However, BSW graduates must note that a BSW degree does not automatically guarantee advanced standing. Prospective applicants seeking admission with advanced placement should carefully review the accompanying “Directions for Application” provided alongside the program application form.
